The ECPR Research Network on Energy Politics, Policy, and Governance and STRN have written a joint open letter to the European Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva, urging the European Commission to enhance support for social science-focused energy research within Horizon Europe and its successor programs.
This letter aims to highlight that the success of the European Green Deal requires more than technological solutions. It needs the insights and leadership of social sciences and humanities. Addressing challenges like public trust, political feasibility, just transitions, and ethical considerations demands dedicated social sciences and humanities research, yet Horizon Europe’s funding structure currently marginalizes these important perspectives.
