Paul van Baal started his PhD at the Chair of Management of Network industries at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in September 2016. He holds a Master of Science degree in Energy Management and Sustainability from EPFL and a Bachelor of Science degree from Amsterdam University College where his studies focused on physics and environmental science. His PhD is funded by Services Industriels de Genève (SIG) where he works part-time as a research assistant. He combines his interests in sustainability the energy transition energy modeling and simulation in his PhD topic which focuses on electricity market redesign and utility policy for coping with the challenges the energy transition imposes on industry stakeholders and policy-makers.
