Lan received her PhD in business economics from Wageningen University in 2008. Before that she studied agricultural and environmental economics at Wageningen University and environmental biology at Nanjing University in China.

In her research at the LEI, Lan performs economic analysis and risk modeling of key issues in the agri-food chain. In particular, she focuses on issues concerning collective risk management such as the development of agri-food clusters in metropolitan areas and the reduction of antibiotic use in animal production systems.
